I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of genealogy leads. I see genealogy leads as one of the biggest lead scams out there. I feel so strongly about it that I wrote an article about it sometime back and posted it at http://www.mlmleads.com/training/3mlmleadscam.html
Here's why I consider genealogy leads a scam...
1) The data being sold is not owned by the leads broker.
I've sold a number of businesses over the years. Each time I sold a business, the customer list was a business asset that was sold with the company regardless of whether the company remained in business or not.
When a person joins a company as a customer or distributor, that business relationship is owned by the company; not the leads broker. Hence, the leads broker is selling information that does not belong to them.
I liken this action to buying a used stereo from a pawn shop, only to find out that it was stolen from your neighbor.
Buying a stolen stereo... how would that make you feel?
Buying a list of names that doesn't belong to the seller... how would that make you feel?
What does that say about the person selling the data?
In short, the data being sold is not owned by the broker; it's owned by the company that owned the customer/distributor list.
2) Fortunes are made in the warm market, not the cold market.
Why would I tell you that when I sell cold market leads?
Well, because it is the truth.
If a distributor does his work properly as a sponsor, that new distributor will provide the sponsor access to 100 to 300 people in their warm market. Those leads don't cost a dime. They are free MLM leads.
95% of the time, a person on a genealogy list has failed in business once before. They’ve already burned thru their warm market. So who are they going to talk to in their warm market? They’re on their way out of business just as soon as they start.
